Our Founder

Andy Lua is a highly experienced PADI Course Director and the founder of Perhentian Island Divers and Planet Blue Carbon, specializing in professional scuba diving training and marine conservation. He has over 30 years of scuba diving experience, primarily based in the Perhentian Islands of Malaysia, and has been a PADI Course Director since at least 2019. His work extends beyond standard dive training, with a strong focus on marine conservation initiatives like coastal blue carbon neutralization and coral adoption programs.

Blue Carbon Institute

The Institute trains and certifies divers, aquarists and marine professionals in ocean-based coral and reef restoration techniques. Through hands-on programs and field-based learning, we empower a skilled workforce to lead ocean-based conservation efforts globally.

Blue Carbon Academy

The Academy certifies schools and teachers, in tandem with offering K–12 education and interactive curriculum on ocean stewardship. Students engage with classroom reef labs and marine aquariums, fostering early awareness and action for ocean conservation.

Blue Carbon Research

Our Research division drives innovation in ocean conservation, focusing on reef science, ecological monitoring, and product development. We generate data and tools that support effective restoration and climate resilience.

Blue Carbon Ventures

Ventures manages the sale of our high-integrity blue carbon credits, generated from verified reef restoration projects. We connect climate-conscious organizations to nature-based solutions that deliver real environmental impact.

Enabling Conservation Through Skills

Coral Nursery and Rehabilitation - We rescue stressed coral fragments, grow them in nurseries, and replant them to boost reef resilience, genetic diversity, and recovery.

Citizen Science and Certified Reef Labs - We engage students and communities in reef restoration through certified school labs and citizen science. These programs turn learning into real-world impact, contributing data and coral growth that support conservation and blue carbon goals.

Create High-Integrity Carbon Credits - We produce measurable blue carbon credits through coral growth and collective bundling, backed by scientific monitoring and co-benefits like biodiversity and coastal protection.
